The Hamilton Group was started in 2012 by two plumbers & friends, Brad Kuhlmey & Francis McCullagh. They had met several years previously when they both started working for the same plumbing company. While working for this particular employer, they both realised they didn’t want to be anything like him. He was a real cowboy, who’d cut corners where ever he could to try and make a bit more money.
“We learnt a lot from working with him. We learnt how not to run a company. How not to treat your staff, or customers, or suppliers etc. But I’m glad I did work for him, and in a way I have to thank him, because he showed me what kind of company I didn’t want to have one day”, says Brad. “When we decided to start our own company we vowed to always try and do the best job we possibly could for our customers. Our company motto is ‘try and treat every customer as if they were our only customer’. Not always easy as you grow, but it’s something we do strive towards.”
Brad & Francis built he company up to where they were providing plumbing, heating, drainage, electrics and bathroom refurbishment services, and had a team of about 10 people working with them. Then in about mid-2017, Francis moved back to Ireland to settle down. Brad then decided to team up with a builder friend of his, Andrew, who’d built up a very successful business (Alpha Contractors), over the last 10 years, specialising in high-end refurbishment. Andrew had a team of approx. 15 people working with him, doing bathrooms, steam rooms, saunas, kitchens, painting & decorating.
Brad & Andrew thought that together they could have quite a strong company, and could basically help homeowners with any jobs they needed doing around the house, large or small. So whether it was to service their boiler, or to refurbish their master en-suite, they’d be able to help.
That’s our vision now, to be a “one stop shop” (For lack of a better phrase), for ALL your household needs, while focusing on the highest quality workmanship, with a dedication to customer satisfaction too.
Why choose us
“My uncle said to me, when I first started out, all you need to do to be a successful plumber is:
- Turn up when you say you’re going to turn up
- Do what you said you were going to do (…and a little more if you can)
- And charge what you said you were going to charge
And that’s all we try and do” says Brad. We don’t believe in making a ‘quick buck’, we believe in laying good, solid foundations for our business, with our customers. We aim to build a company that Londoners can rely on for generations to come.
The business is now split into 2 separate divisions:
1. Reactive – On the ‘Reactive’ side we offer plumbing, heating, gas and drainage services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, as well as electrical services.
2. Refurbishment – On the ‘Refurbishment’ side we’re focus mainly on luxury bathroom, wetroom, steam room (Hammam) and sauna refurbishment. But also have decorators and kitchen fitters available.
The Hamilton Group offices are on Effra Road in Brixton, SW2 1BZ and we’re perfectly positioned to get anywhere in South West London, South East London and Central London (The City) easily.
We specialise in providing a friendly, reliable service, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We pride ourselves on providing great customer services too, and strive to constantly improve on that. All of our tradesmen have a minimum of five years experience in their relevant field, which means that you can be sure you’re getting a quality service with everything we do.
We are only happy, when our customers are happy 🙂
Meet the team
Brad Kuhlmey (Reactive Director)
Born in South Africa, the son of a builder, Brad grew up messing around on building sites as a kid and the property industry has always been close to his heart. After leaving university, with Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Finance & Business Management, Brad started plumbing with a friend of friend, and just stuck with. “I enjoyed plumbing because I wasn’t stuck behind a desk all day, something I think I would have hated. Every day was different, I was new people, going into different homes and solving different problem everyday. I soon grew tired of working for somebody else though, and being forced to cut corners and be apart of sub-standard work, so around 2010 I formed Hamilton Heating. That started growing pretty quickly and I soon needed an office and needed some help, so I partnered up with another plumber mate of mine Francis, and we formed ‘The Hamilton Group” in January 2012, and here we are today”.
