Drain Repairs In South West London

When Drain Repairs Are Necessary

A blocked drain can simply be unblocked and everything can return to normal in a relatively quick time and without too much inconvenience. However, there are times when the problem is much more serious than a blockage requiring nominal or even extensive remedial repair works. One of the most common reasons for repair works is a collapsed drain. A collapsed drain will almost certainly involve excavation work in order to clear the waterways of debris and rebuild the drain. Fortunately, many problems of this magnitude are covered on the property's buildings insurance but not all however, and it would therefore be wise to check. Other problems requiring drain repairs may include cracked or damaged drainage pipes. There are a number of possible solutions depending on the extent of the damage.

Types Of Drain Repairs

Apart from the rebuilding of a collapsed drain, some other drain repairs may be necessary and many can be undertaken relatively quickly and might not require excavation. For example, an old underground clay pipe, which has cracked or is showing signs of joint displacement and allowing water or sewage to escape could be repaired by inserting a liner. A CCTV drain survey will reveal the extent of the damage and therefore a practical solution, such as lining could be the best option. Lining an existing drain is a much cheaper option than replacement and involves first water jetting the system to ensure it is clear of obstacles and debris. A resin impregnated plastic sleeve is then inserted into the length of the drain, and inflated with an air compressor. The sleeve will expand and adhere permanently to the inner walls of the existing pipe creating a watertight seal.

Other Drain Repair Options

Drainage repairs may be covered on a building's insurance policy but it's quite possible that the insurance company will not pay for a complete relining of damaged pipework. Instead they will only pay for the damaged area to be patched. Patching is obviously cheaper because it involves applying a patch to the leaking joint or cracked area only. However, this type of repair is still considered to be effective. Internal drainage pipework, in both domestic and commercial properties can very easily be repaired by simply replacing the damaged or worn part for a new part.
